The tenth anniversary edition of the prestigious FEBS practical crystallisation course
The tenth anniversary edition of the prestigious FEBS practical crystallisation course, led by Prof. Ivana Kuta Smatanova The Laboratory of Structural Chemistry of the Department of Chemistry which is starting from 10 to 15 June at the Faculty of Science of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice.
This course has a rich history going back twenty years, when the first FEBS course "Advanced methods in macromolecular crystallization I" was held at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, focusing on protein crystallization as well as new developments and trends in the field of protein crystallogenesis. Since then it has become a tradition and attracted over 300 students and postdocs from all over the world.
Even the covid-19 pandemic did not stop its continuation, and in August 2021 the ninth course was held in stricter conditions, but in off-line mode. X-ray diffraction remains an essential method for studying the structure of biological macromolecules, especially protein-inhibitor/substrate complexes. Despite advances in cryoEM, challenges in crystallization of biological macromolecules are still relevant.
This course aims to bridge the gap between new knowledge and practical skills. Renowned experts, who will provide their valuable expertise and experience, thus continuing the successful tradition of these courses, will lecture students. In addition, students will be introduced to new topics such as fragment screening, intracellular crystallization and cryoEM. We are confident that the discussion of theory combined with laboratory experiments will create a unique educational experience that will provide students with an unforgettable learning experience.
You are cordially invited to the lectures.
