About the programme

The study field of Biochemistry represents a multidisciplinary field including chemical, biological and physical sciences. Basic biochemical concepts will be discussed in the light of current research as well as parallel topics including the structure and function of important biological molecules and biochemical functions will be defined. Attention will also be paid to modern techniques of molecular and cell biology to the extent that will enable graduates to work with biological material with the use of appropriate techniques of analytical and preparative biochemistry and molecular biology.

Programme structure

The curriculum, which is a set of courses taken in individual semesters over a standard period of study, is compatible with the study programme and the internal regulations of the faculty. The student draws up his/her study plan in cooperation with the supervisor, who then submits it to the departmental board for approval. Due to the individuality of the study plans, elective courses are significantly more prevalent in the doctoral studies.

The rules for the progression of studies in the programme lay down the conditions that the student must fulfil during the course of his/her studies and on its proper completion. This assessment is governed by the Regulations of the Study and Examination Regulations of the Faculty of Science of the USB.
