Aims of the research:

   1) „Healthy poppy“ - The development of new approaches for poppy protection against pathogens and pests.

  • Poppy (Papaver somniferum) immunity
Our aim is to monitor typical plant immune responses in poppy.
  • Poppy gene editing
Our aim is to establish whole protocol for poppy gene editing. It includes poppy transformationa and usage of CRISPR based approach.
  • Speed breeding of poppy
Our aim is to develop the procedure by which we will be able to obtain new generation of poppy in the lowest possible time.
  • Spraying with dsRNA as an alternative approach for protection of poppy against pathogens and pests
Our aim is to develop dsRNA with which we will treat poppy pathogens and the dsRNA will inhibit pathogen growth by RNAi.
  • Early diagnostics of poppy pathogens on the field
Our aim is to develop system by which the farmers wil be able to mahe molecular diagnostics directly on the field.

   2) Cuticle and plant immunityDoes triggered plant immunity affects cuticle composition and/or dynamics

   3) Salicylic acid signalling pathway in plants - In this project we are mainly focused on the deciphering of the mechanism of the effect of salicylic acid on plant growth and development.

   4) Phytobacterial extracellular vesicles - Which factors affects vesiculation of phytobacteria (especially Pseudomonas)

LABORATORY OF MOLECULAR PLANT-MICROBE INTERACTIONS

MPMI Lab CZ

Laboratory of Molecular Plant–Microbe Interactions CZ

We are searching for students who will be interested in our topics! Particular available topic for thesis.

In our research we are interested in plant–microbe interactions with special focus on the molecular aspect of them and on plant immunity. The particular aim of our lab is to become a world leading laboratory in research focused on poppy plant immunity and poppy protection against pathogens and pests.

Phytopathogens are of huge economic importance, threatening both quantity and quality of food production. Reducing crop losses from disease epidemics caused by pathogens is critical for the supply of agricultural produce. On the other hand, colonisation of plants with beneficial microbes can stimulate plant growth by increasing the nutrient uptake by roots or prime plants for enhanced defence against biotic and abiotic stresses, which can help to improve (or bring new approaches to) efforts to reach more sustainable agriculture. In the last three decades the understanding of molecular plant-microbe interactions made big steps forward, and ongoing research shows the topic is of huge importance and is fascinating.

The importance of our research was propagated by the United Nations announcement of the year 2020 to become an International of plant health (see video bellow).
