SmartGrid

University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice and Technische Hochschule Deggendorf

are implementing a project called

Smart Grids in Rural Areas and SMEs, No. 144

within the framework of the cross-border cooperation program Czech Republic - Free State of Bavaria EUC goal 2014 – 2020

Project objectives

The goal of the project is to create a cross-border laboratory focused on research and the introduction of smart transmission energy system resources into the environment of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in remote areas.

As a result of the difference between the consumption and the supply of energy to the transmission system, significant problems occur especially in the peripheral areas of the transmission system. The introduction of renewable energy sources exacerbates the problem. Renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power cannot be easily regulated. Ideally, renewable energy should be consumed at the point of production. The transmission of produced energy over long distances is uneconomical and unecological.

By deploying technologies that are collectively referred to as a smart transmission system (Smart Grid), it is possible not only to solve these problems, but also to achieve significant energy and financial savings. Smart Grid is an electricity transmission system in which, unlike the current "dumb grid", there is constant communication between energy suppliers (power plants or even small local sources, such as solar panels on the roof or a small wind farm) and consumers.

The purpose of the existence of the joint laboratory is the introduction and research of SG technologies in energetically remote areas of Šumava and the Bavarian Forest, primarily in the SME segment. Furthermore, the preparation of experts who will be able to effectively design and deploy these solutions and involve SMEs in the process of planning and managing energy consumption in accordance with the principles of Industry 4.0. Ultimately, increasing the competitive advantage of these businesses through automation and regulation of energy consumption.
